Notes

What

This is the beginning of a new series of limited CD-R releases for 2008. My record making process is now exactly backwards. First, a title for this work was chosen. Next, I began making the packaging. Then I began recording the music that belongs inside.

The materials used in the packaging are familiar to me from my architecture and design work. This was a familiar activity, cutting up chipboard and tape in various proportions. Likewise, some of my graphic scores have been prepared with letraset transfer type and other various architectural rendering techniques. The design is deliberately simple, as I wanted to be able to cut and assemble them all by hand.

The cover draws many deliberate parallels between the process of assembling it itself and the music inside, which is also composed on 1" audio tape. The repeating distinctive shapes of multi-track splices form an abstract landscape of grass and sky.
